Coban is an unusual and historically rare
cave room. Named after a former inhabitant (Coban means
shepherd), this room was originally a stables. Its ancient
function is reflected by the antique shepherd’s cloak
hanging next to the entrance doors. Remnants of past use
include mangers from which the sheep were fed, and holes in
the stone where the animals were tied, and antiques related
to animals. Not to worry; any other signs of sheep are long
gone.
The elevated space where the shepherd lived
has been converted into a comfortable sitting room, complete
with the original fireplace. While a shepherd’s life in
this cave room would have been rudimentary, Coban is fitted
with the finest modern conveniences, including a spacious
bath and separate shower.
